To supervise day-to-day nursing functions of an assigned area to include functioning as a charge nurse in providing nursing care to residents as prescribed by the physician and in accordance with standards of nursing practices and regulations, and as may be directed by the director of nursing or nursing department managers.
Qualifications:
Must be a register nurse (RN) or a licensed practical nurse (LPN), in good standing and currently licensed by the State.
Able to read, write, and follow oral and written directions at a level necessary to accomplish the job.
Must be able to relate positively and favorably to residents and families and to work cooperatively with other employees.
Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance.
Must meet all local health regulations and pass post-employment physical exam if required.
Must be capable of performing the essential job functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Experience as a charge nurse or supervisory experience preferred.
Essential Job Functions:
Unit Supervision Duties:
Supervise other professional and non-professional staff in the day-to-day delivery of resident care.
Schedule job assignments and develop nursing unit priorities.
May orientate new staff and participate in recruitment and selection of nursing staff.
Communicate policies, assist and coach a needed.
Monitor work assignments, provide feedback, evaluate performance, and redirect and discipline as needed.
Nursing Care Function Duties:
Prepare and review medical records and nurses notes, and assess residents to evaluate their physical and emotional status.
Monitor resident activity and provide nursing care according to the physician's orders, care plans, established standards, and facility policies.
Coordinate and assist or prepare for new admissions, transfers and discharge for residents.
Transcribe physicians' telephone orders.
Communicate with residents, family members, and management regarding resident status.
Drug Administration & Documentation Function Duties:
Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician; in accordance with nursing standards and facility policies.
Sign, date, and perform all charting and record keeping in accordance with established policies and procedure.
Residents' Rights Function Duties:
Understand, comply with, and promote all rules regarding residents' rights.
Physical and Sensory Requirement (With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices):
Walking, reaching, bending, heavy lifting, grasping, fine hand coordination, ability to hear and respond to pages; ability to read and write, ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and directions, ability to communicate with residents, families, personnel, vendors, and consultants, ability to distinguish smells, taste, and temperatures, and ability to remain calm under stress.
Other Job Functions:
Care Plan Assessment Function Duties:
Assist and participate in developing and implementing a written care plan for individual residents that addresses the needs of the residents.
Staff Development Function Duties:
Participate in in-service training, assist in implementing orientation programs and job skills training; maintain professional competence.
Safety & Sanitation Functions Duties:
monitor environment and care practices of nursing personnel to ensure compliance with established safety, fire and disaster, infection control and all other departmental policies and procedures are followed; and to ensure cleanliness and safety of work and treatment areas.
Other Duties Duties:
Other duties as assigned.
Physician and Sensory Requirements (With or Without the Aide of Mechanical Devices) Walking, ability to distinguish smells, ability to communicate with residents and personnel, ability to read and write and ability to understand and instruct nursing services personnel concerning training and education.
